“…if not you can activate camera with manually taking pictures at beginning of the mission…”: what exactly do you mean? How you start to take picture and what button do you press? It may be an important information for Pix4D support. If the problem is only to activate the camera, probably the issue is connected to this “not start camera”. Waiting for an answer from technical support asap. Regards.
i am using phantom 4 pro, when i arrange my mission and start with pix4dcapture drone take of and go to start point. for example today i took 3 picture with pressing button on remote of dji. i did that before drone start mission i mean before go to start point, while rising up to arranged altitude.

I tried Yunus his method with 2 different flight methods but it did not work for me in fast trigger mode.
3 flights yesterday in safe mode were succesfull although it did miss one out of the 300 pictures.
Still do not understand why the safe mode should be limitted to 100 waypoints? Support?
@Yunus: thanks for you answer, as soon as possible I will try. Now I’m using a Phantom 4 for my projects (but I own also other three drones and one of these is a Phantom 4 Pro) and the issue happened for the first time on it on july this year. The “thunderous” silence of technical support is very very strange IMHO, considering the cost of our drones and the cost of our “full” licenses in addition to the lost profits.
@Antonio
You are welcome. I am using pix4d since september. I had no idea before, i learnt everything from webinars and video academy, also from comments at this community. Thats why i find very useful to share experiences in this platform. Sometimes users comments are better than technical support. They dont go in detail but users mostly having same issues. I am using phantom 4 pro and android pix4d capture on Samsung mobile device. Creating 3d model for my company every week for presentation and EW activities, so i have limited time to complete mission and start processes. I tried everything that technical support and other users advised, last 3 weeks i completed mission with manually activating camera. I hope as soon as possible pix4d fix the issue and we will not need to find our solutions.
Regards
@Yunus
I agree with you: this type of issue appears to be ignored by technical support, even if it is a common issue. So every suggestion is welcome. I operate such a type of works since June 2016 with a “full” license of Pix4Dmapper Pro (you can visit my web domain www.aerialdroneostro.com for further information about my activities), but in the last few months this issue has become very very important to be solved.
@Antonio: The issue is not trivial and is hard to reproduce consistently. This is why detailed feedback from users having the issue can help. I think we all want this problem to be solved, so let’s try to work together to fix this. As soon as we have updates from our side we will post them. The last updates were posted just a week ago a few comments higher up: here.
@Yunus: Thanks for keeping us posted with the tests you have performed.
Please… when companies say “hard to reproduce consistently” what they really mean is that “they” are scratching their head. Sort of like when you call your cable company and complain about internet not working and they go through motions of turning modem of and wiggling wires when problem is on their server side.
Clearly, given number of people complaining about same issue, all in range of aircraft, all with clear line of site, all with similar drones, all using same app… having same issue… the issue is neither with the user nor with the drone but with the actual app.
My advice to pix4d is to delete functionality of “fast flight connection requirement”… and figure out why “slow” option works. You should not have to be connected to drone 24x7x365. I should be able to use pix4d just like I do a waypoint mission. Heck, with my litchi app, I can turn off remote control entirely and have it fly entire route doing what I told it to do with zero connectivity to drone.
Pix4d should not be dependent on app telling drone from remote control “live” telling it to take pictures. It should know to take pictures by itself on the drone level.
Please rework fast flight mode to pre-load and not be dependent on remote control. If my app crashes, if my app acts weird… drone should still do what I told it to do. Litchi app does it. Talk to them.
I’ll transfer your input to the developers. Thanks for sharing.
yaroslav zaitsev…
I agree with you. The safe mode (slower) appears to have the same issue as fast mode in my experience. The app isn’t triggering the camera in both modes while flying. The difference between the two modes is that in safe mode, the entire mission and triggering points are uploaded to the drone itself. When the app loses connection, the drone continues to fly the mission and trigger the camera. Fast mode does not do that as it seems to solely rely on the connection to the app to trigger the camera. From what I understand, if flying in fast mode and the signal is lost from the controller, the drone will immediately return to the home point. In slow mode, the mission will continue even if the controller is turned off. Correct me if I am wrong on any of this.
I have flown in slow mode and noticed that the app was not marking the camera trigger points on the map similar to the issue in fast mode. However, the camera was triggered and the images were saved because I believe that ‘trigger command’ in the program is loaded with the mission onto the drone. I also believe that same ‘trigger command’ is NOT included in fast mode possibly because of processing power or some other reason. I think the issue began with a Capture update sometime around July 2017. In my opinion, the developers need to do a line by line code comparison of the pre-July version and post-July version to see what was changed if they haven’t already.
Like many others on here, slow mode doesn’t work for me because I need to cover larger areas quickly. I have mentioned before on this post that I have been able to successfully trigger the camera in fast mode by manually clicking the camera button on my P3P DJI controller during flight. It is definitely not the solution and won’t work for everybody, but has been a work around for me.
I also recommend checking out the flight app Micasense Atlas. It is alternative to Pix4D Capture. I don’t think it does 3D models like Pix4D does, but it will get imagery by triggering the camera. You can still process the photos it takes in Pix4D Desktop or Cloud. Micasense charges a monthly fee to use Atlas and all processing is done in the cloud.
I just flew two more missions this morning and I decided to go ahead and create a video from start to finish to show the settings I am using. If you follow the steps in the video I think you should be fine (only configuration I have tested is the Phantom 4 Pro with iOS 11 & 2.6.0 Pix4Dcapture)
I now have flown over 25 missions in ver. 2.6.0 and I have not had a problem.
The screen recording option built into iOS 11 might be a good way for everyone here to document success and failures with the capture.
I just flew five missions with my mavic, with only one mission actually capturing photos. Twice this week this has happened. The app was working fine a couple of weeks ago. I cant recommend to my boss to purchase software that doesn’t work unfortunately. I am running latest firmware and software on an ipad mini 4. Maybe time to give dronedeploy a go…
John,
Can you do a screen recording of your setup from start to finish? I am curious what others are doing when they are getting a failure. I would highly recommend trying other apps, I have tried all the brands offered in the App Store and I have found each one has a different issue in my opinion. I do think the DJI ground control app for iPad is pretty good.
Here is a video of my setup process and I am getting great results with a phantom 4 pro
My process is very simple.
-
Open DJI app format SD card.
-
Force close DJI app.
-
Start mavic and controller.
-
Open Pix4d plan mission and hit start.
It was working perfectly a couple of weeks ago. Flawlessly.
The only thing that has changed since then was a mavic firmware upgrade, which I suspect is the culprit.
The one mission that captured photos yesterday didnt even make the clicking camera sound. There was only a shutter effect on the screen.
I checked out your video. My workflow is exactly the same minus the camera triggering obviously.
@Pierangelo and other owners of a full license: due to the first post was posted by Dim Archontidis on February 14, 2017 16:31, as Pix4Dmapper Pro owners it is time to ask to Pix4D to solve this issue definitely, isn’t it?
Very easy work-around for everybody running multiple missions and it not taking all the pictures. Simply force-close the app and re-connect the USB cable to the tablet before running every mission.
Yesterday was the first time I saw this issue of lag/missing pictures because all my other days, I am conserving tablet battery power by closing it out during battery changes (doing 8-12 missions a day). But yesterday I was just doing 4 missions so I left Pix4Dcapture open and by the 3rd mission it had the lag/missing picture problem.
Yes of course Pix4D needs to fix this and add critical features but taking 5-10 seconds to force-close the app before every mission is a pretty simple fix for now.
i would be happy with this workaround if it was capturing images on the first mission.
As per my previous post, it was working flawlessly with my mavic across multiple missions, until this week, possibly associated with the last firmware upgrade (?), but then pix4d always say to run the latest firmware!
Just tried a few missions moments ago. Still not working after the update with the mavic pro. I have tried everything possible, all the above suggestions etc. It just isn’t working!
