Some Thoughts on Streamlining/polishing Pix4D

Hey All,

Would you have your team take  a look at some of these suggestions.

  1. standardize some shortcuts between the manual GCP editor and the Raycloud GCP editor:

I process several hundred models a month and sometimes the i have to use the manual GCP editor, others it works in the ray cloud after a rapid process, but there are a few things that you can use in one that you can not use in the other:

    a) make the manual GCP editor window have a fullscreen button so you can easily resize it.

    b) be able to use the “Spacebar” key in the manual editor like you can in the raycloud to make the image full screen

    c) Be able to use the “Alt” and “shift” keys in the ray cloud to quick zoom in/out like you can in the Manual GCP editor {maybe even a smooth hold down middle mouse button zoom like in the ray cloud

 2) Add in a widget to show when you are in ortho / perspective modes on the “camera” inside of pix (right down by the axis widget would be great)

  1. Consider changing some short cuts (like changing the view type “trackball, FP, etc” ) to single key presses and not 2-3 key combinations.

  2. When in the Manual GCP editor i often find where another GCP is in the same picture as the GCP i am working on; but when i go to change the selected GCP instead of keeping the same picture i have selected up it defaults to the first one in the list. it would save me lots of time in the Manual editor if this didnt do that, stay on the picture you have selected so you can mark GCPs in the same image by just changing the GCP you have selected.

  3. is there a way to select a point in an image and force that to a defined GCP you have already created?

Hi Matt,

Thanks for commenting. To better understand the possible impact of such improvements, could you give an estimate for the percentage of projects in which you would typically use these functionalities? e.g. in what percentage among the several hundred models a month would you use the Basic Editor? And same for the other points.

Also, for point 2, I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Can you give an example screenshot or describe it in more detail? What is the difference with the coordinate axes that are displayed in the bottom left corner of the rayCloud?

I have already transferred your feedback to our development teams, so that they are aware of it. Regarding point 5), I don’t see a way of doing this at the moment. The only way of forcing an image to a GCP would be to create the GCP directly in the rayCloud and mark it in this image.

I agree on number 4. It is really annoying.

b) be able to use the “Spacebar” key in the manual editor like you can in the raycloud to make the image full screen"

Holy Hell, that’s useful.  I never knew about that shortcut. Thanks, Matt.

" 5) is there a way to select a point in an image and force that to a defined GCP you have already created? "

I’ll second that request.
