My colleagues are undertaking a drone survey for me, in their local area, and have asked that I produce the Pix4D Capture mission with them beforehand, so all they have to do is turn on the drone and run the mission. They can use an Android or Apple device. My problem is how to share the mission with them so they can load it into Pix4D Capture?
I have tried saving a project on one device (Android), then logging into the same account on a different device (Apple), however the Projects do not seem to sync between devices.
Does anybody know how I might share an unflown mission or do I have to ask them to rebuild it from scratch on their own device?
Thank you for contacting us and for trying our software. We will be glad to help you to get the best experience using it.
When you are planning and saving a mission using Pix4Dcapture, it is all done on the local memory of the mobile device and then it is normal that you will not see the project save on one device on another one. It would need a synchronization functionality that is not existing at the moment on Pix4Dcapture. Our long-term goal is to have a better way for users to share/synchronize their projects/results.
However, sharing a project may be possible but we donāt have official instructions for it as it is not implemented as functionality in our application. We have not tested it so I cannot guarantee that it will work but I donāt see anything preventing these folder transfer the way it is described below:
Connect the device to a computer and navigate to Local Storage > Device storage > Pix4D.
Copy out the folder(s) containing the mission(s) you would like to share.
Zip them and send them to your colleague.
Then add those folder(s) to the other mobile device where you want to transfer the missions to. Be sure to transfer at the appropriate path on the other mobile device. (in the Pix4D folder)
Open Pix4Dcapture and normally you should have access to all the missions on this mobile device
Before anything, I would suggest you to backup the Pix4Dcapture folder as this procedure may imply data loss.
Also, donāt hesitate to read ourĀ manualĀ to get the best experience out of our application.Ā
Hope this can help you, I look forward to your response.
Best regards,
Thomas, I wish this was available. It should be as simple as Pix4D capture, uploading the mission details to the Pix4D server so that you could open up another device (iOs or Android) and the missions be synced on all of your devices.
I agree with your point. However, the synchronization of the mission is not possible at this time. I will share your feedback to the developerās team as a product suggestion.
Iām trying to share a flight plan that I created in the Pix4Dcapture app with the person who is going to be doing the flight so that they can download it and fly the mission.
Iām selecting the mission/project, tap the share button in the upper right corner and select share. But, I get an error message that there are āNo Mail Accountsā and that I need to set one up. Iām signed into the app, and I canāt find a place to confirm the email address I want to use.
Iām wondering if this feature is possible using the free version of the software, or perhaps Iām missing something dumb?
Thanks
The workaround (Local Storage>Device storage>Pix4D) doesnāt work on an iPad device, which we have to use to fly a DJI drone since Android support is nearly impossible there. On an iPad, you can only access pictures and videos.
The export button when displaying a project in Pix4Dcapture to ātransfer Pix4D project file with instructions by mailā doesnāt seem to do anything: No email shows up at our associated Pix4D account email address.
Note that we are not using the cloud to store our data since we are using a MicaSense Altum multispectral camera that is only semi-connected to the drone (photo locations are shown as dots during a flight. You donāt see any pictures in Pix4Dcapture, in contrast to what we see when we use a Mavic2 or Phantom4 with integrated color cameras.
Weāve managed ok sticking with the same device and duplicating a flight, but it would help to store these flight plans in our GIS, then maybe we could create our own tile services with that and imagery, and thus better ensure we get overlap between adjacent flight plans to cover our 10 km2 meadow. At present weāre guessing at it using visible features, very unreliable.
Is this really still the only way to do this? This is very cumbersome for companies that have a Project Manager designing the flight missions for various locations and sharing them with different pilots. Why not just add a feature to upload/sync flight missions with the cloud and share them just by specifying the other pilotās Pix4D account email address (like DroneDeploy does it.) SO MUCH MORE EFFICIENT!
You can actually accomplish this through iTunes. Here are the steps using Windows 10 and iTunes 12:
With the iPad connected, go to the āFile Sharingā tab in iTunes.
Click on āPix4Dcaptureā in the Apps list.
Select the āPix4Dcaptureā folder from the documents list on the right, then click āSaveā¦ā in the bottom right corner.
Once that folder is saved to your PC, open it up and go to the āProjectsā folder. Each of your saved projects from the iOS app should be in there.
To transfer to another device, just drag and drop the entire āPix4Dcaptureā folder back into the documents list in iTunes, clicking on āReplaceā in the popup window.
A couple notes:
I have not tested to see if the flight plans will still execute correctly once theyāve been copied to a new device, so use at your own risk.
As mentioned in step 5, you have to overwrite the entire āPix4Dcaptureā folder on the iPad, so be careful to avoid unintentional data loss.
You can actually use this method to rename projects! The projects just use the āProject 0001ā, āProject 0002ā convention when initially created, but you can change the folder names on your PC and then copy back over to the iPad. The caveat here is that the project name still needs to begin with āProjectā. But in my testing, the characters after that donāt seem to matter (as long as you donāt create duplicate project names, of course).
Be sure to quit the app on the iPad before transferring data to it from the PC. If you leave the app open, then you wonāt see any changes until you quit it and relaunch.
Offline maps have to be re-downloaded. Not sure if there is a way around this.
This would be a major inconvenience moving forward with this product. The whole point of cross device synchronization is workflow efficiency. Trying to build a complex project on a cell phone (as small as it is) is not practical, nor productive. Almost as bad as not being able to rename a project as you duplicate them for minor changes. Not impressed so far, even if this seems to be the ārecommendedā app for this companyā¦
I transferred my images taken with my drone from the sd card to my windows pc
Only all my images are in .DNG or .JPEG format
