Hi, I am unable to start Pix4dmapper. It has worked for a number of years now and has just recently stopped working. When trying to open I receive an error “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142) Click OK to close the Application”.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Just wondering if there is a fix?
@mark.robjant We are seeing this issue and believe it is due to antivirus, the firewall/proxy, Windows, or Microsoft. Most probably due to the antivirus on your computer. Few users mentioned that it is required that the userdata folder be excluded from your antivirus such Sophosand others as in addition to the program files.
- C:\Program Files\Pix4Dmapper\
- C:\ProgramData\Pix4D\
- C:\Users*\AppData\Local\Pix4D\
- C:\Users*\AppData\Roaming\Pix4D\
I would also recommend you to go through the below support article,

Error 0xc0000142 - PIX4Dmatic
Please don’t forget to share what was the cause in your case.
I’m having the same issue.
Reinstalled an older version I had on file (4.0.25) and that is running.
I’m having the same issue. We also have Sophos installed on all of our devices. We tried to make exceptions for the program folders but it didn’t help. The only thing that worked was deactivating the whole data protection for the device. So the problem seems to be that the Pix4d softwares are doing specific actions that are blocked somehow by Sophos. As other programs work fine this probably has to be fixed within the software itself. Does anyone have another workaround? Its frustrating to pay this much for licensing and not being able to use it on ANY device.
We have had to resort to the same solution of removing Sophos. Since out work policies don’t allow this, we have had to resort to a device that doesn’t get connected to the internet (After the initial Login of course) which again has its limitations. The frustration is certainly noticed here as well.
How exactly did you manage this? Did you install the program without any internet connection? Because the internet connection does not change the situation, the error message still appears.
Hello there, In most cases, the error 0xc0000142 occurs because antivirus such as Sophos or SentinelOne blocks PIX4Dmapper/PIX4Dmatic from starting.
In addition to whitelisting the software, It is important to exclude both the installation folders and the user data folders (where * represents your Windows username):
C:\Program Files\Pix4Dmapper\ *For PIX4Dmatic software: C:\Program Files\PIX4Dmatic\
C:\ProgramData\Pix4D
C:\Users*\AppData\Local\Pix4D
C:\Users*\AppData\Roaming\Pix4D\
Make sure you are setting up the exclusion type properly in Sophos. Sophos has multiple layers:
- Real-time scanning
- Exploit prevention
- Behavioral detection (HIPS)
- Controlled apps/ransomware protection
- Make sure to add all the layers of the exclusion. It will only work if you setup these exclusion.
If you are unable to resolve the issue following the above recommendation for the whitelist and folder exclusion, it is likely that the exceptions are not set properly.
