Mavic Pro Raycloud image flip

Hi

See attd screenshot - I’m getting the Blue image border inverting on about half the images after initial processing.

Anyone else getting this with the Mavic?

Is it a problem?

If so, how do you correct it?

Thanks.

Hi,

The blue position is the initial one hence it might be related to the initial values inputted by the GPS geolocation.

Do you have orientation including in your geolocation? Could you check if the values are okay?

Thanks,

Ina

Thanks.

From the Report, 3 images attd.

The Geolocation RMS error looks like the one that could be out.

The photos themselves look good, they are orientated correctly, and the orthomosaic processing is working well.

Just wondering if there is a setting I have wrong, perhaps with the Mavic??  It is un-nerving to see such a radical difference in the Raycloud.

Thanks

Hi Hamish,

The initial values of the image orientation can be seen in the Image Properties Editor (see the screenshot below):

Have you checked those values?

Could you post a screenshot similar to mine here as well?

Thanks,

Ina

Hi Ina,

Attd screenshot of Image properties, in a section where the Omega values are flipping 180 degrees.

Thanks

Hamish

Hi Hamish,

Based on the values reported by teh drone and how Pix4D interprets omega, phi, kappa the initial positions of your camera it is true (upside-down).

However, since you do not have an RTK or PPK and you do not use accurate geolocation the optimised position of the cameras is based on teh bundle adjustment and not the orientation values provided.

Hence the wrong initial orientation values in your case do not affect the results.

I hope this answers your questions.

Cheers,

Ina

I’m having the same problem, however, I have RTK accuracy. I don’t understand, is the payload providing incorrect metadata for image orientation or is Pix4D converting information incorrectly?

I reached out to DJI and they said

The reason for the problem you mentioned is because the rotation definitions of the two sets of angles are different.
The photos taken by our Zenmuse P1 record the information of Yaw, pitch and roll.
If you need to use pix4D software, it is recommended that you select the attitude angle as Yaw, pitch, roll, or consult pix4d technical support on how to convert the two sets of angles.

Hello there, It might be due to the metadata from the raw images. We have also seen the orientation issue with the P1 camera previously, which was fixed on the newer version of PIX4Dmapper, so if you are using the older version of PIX4Dmappper, make sure to use the latest version.
