Hi all. I am going to buy a computer for doing 3d models of canyons to sample plants. I estimate I will obtain between 200-600 48 MP pictures per project. In Pix4d mapper recommendations website they suggest a 16 GB RAM computer for processing between 100-500 12 MP pictures. I am thinking of buying a Mac mini with 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores with a unified memory of 16 GB. Has anyone work with Mac mini or Mac mini studio computers for doing 3D models? If so, what would you suggest me for processing my data?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Despite the higher cost, consider investing in a MacBook Pro or a Mac Studio, as they would significantly improve efficiency. This would be particularly beneficial if you plan to process larger 3D mapping projects in Pix4D, such as working with around 3000 images. I am currently working on a project using a MacBook Pro with an M2 Max chip, and even with this setup, the processing time is quite lengthy. If those options are too expensive, you can always purchase Pix4D Cloud for a 1-month subscription, or you could opt for a 15-day trial with DroneDeploy and process numerous 3D mapping projects for free and then decide from there. I recommend a 15-day free trial in drone deployment. I processed a 4000-image map using their free trial, and it worked.
Hello @contacto1, If you are panning to purchase PIX4Dmapper software, don’t get the Mac because it is not supported. However, if you are thinking of PIX4Dmatic, then Mac is good. I usually recommend getting at least 32 GB of RAM but if you are thinking of processing more then 1000 images at 48MB, it might be good to increase it to 64GB.
