I just observed I cannot download a mesh anymore from the Cloud.
I processed the project with Matic and uploaded all files from there, including mesh. The mesh can be seen in the cloud viewer, so it is uploaded correctly. But when I click “Files&Reports”, the field for Mesh says “empty”.
If you uploaded a mesh from Matic in OBJ format to PIX4Dcloud, this result should not say empty.
In this regard, you can post the project URL here or open a support ticket so I can review what happened.
Did you also notice any errors when you uploaded the project to the Matic console?
Thanks for fast reply! link above. No errors occured while uploading. As I wrote the mesh is online, but me and my customers cannot download it, as posted.
I don’t have the time to do an additional support ticket, sorry.
I’ve reviewed the project, and the mesh can’t be downloaded because the mesh is uploaded as Cesium 3D Tiles format. This is a display-only format, so it can’t be downloaded.
Hi Heydi,
sorry, I’m having a hard time following your explanation. What exactly do you mean by “use OBJ”? I’m not exporting anything from Matic to my local drive — I’m uploading the project directly to your cloud using “Share to Cloud.”
As far as I know, there’s no option to select an OBJ file during the “Share to Cloud” process.
If I remember correctly, it used to be possible to include the mesh when uploading via “Share to Cloud,” and then download it from there later.
If I understand you correctly, are you saying this is no longer possible?
Unfortunately, your answer doesn’t really help me in this case.
My previous message was certainly unclear. Let me clarify a few things:
Since the Share to Cloud feature was implemented in PIX4Dmatic, it was only possible to upload Cesium 3D Tiles and not the OBJ format. As I mentioned, this format is for viewing only, and therefore the tiles cannot be downloaded either.
As a workaround, you can consider the following options:
a) If you install a version lower than PIX4Dmatic 1.76, you can generate a single OBJ file. You can then use Share to Cloud to upload the generated outputs (everything except the mesh) and manually upload the generated OBJ file locally. Or
b) You can use the Process in PIX4Dcloud option and generate all outputs directly in PIX4Dcloud, and the OBJ will be available once processing is complete. Or
c) You can wait for the new stable version of PIX4Dmatic, where we hope this issue will be resolved.
Let me know if you still have questions or concerns.
can you please specify point A? Step by step? I don’t get it. We talk about scalable mesh? I can only export a OBJ mesh to my harddrive, but how to share that then directly via share to cloud? Cannot find this option.
Could you be so nice and please do a step by step list, how I calulate a project and upload it via share-to-cloud in order to be able to download my mesh from cloud, without having more work than before. This worked wonderful before, why did you guys change that??
You’re correct — the current version of PIX4Dmatic now generates a scalable mesh, as you’ve mentioned.
If you would like to generate and export a mesh in the format used before this update, here’s how you can proceed using an earlier version of the software (e.g., v1.75):
a) Download Version 1.75
You can download an earlier version (e.g., 1.75) from the release notes page: PIX4Dmatic v1.75 Download
b) Process Your Project
Follow the standard workflow to process your project.
Processing Instructions – PIX4Dmatic
If I remember correctly, up to version 1.75 it was possible to simply create the mesh and upload it via “share-to-cloud”—that worked perfectly well for my needs. But okay, I don’t want to drag this into a long discussion.
Now I understand what you mean with the new process. However, I have to say: for me, this is a really unfortunate workflow change.
First, I need to downgrade to an older version, and then re-run the calculations. That’s quite a mess and feels like a significant step backwards.
This change creates a lot of extra work for me — the phrase “Never change a winning team” comes to mind.
Honestly, it feels like I’m part of a beta test: new features are being rolled out without enough consideration for existing workflows—or for the impact on long-time users.
I also checked the link you sent regarding the new Scalable Mesh feature, but there’s no mention that this change completely breaks the cloud sharing process for meshes. That’s disappointing.
Now, due to this new “feature,” I’ll have to recalculate 14 models. That’s incredibly frustrating.
I truly hope this gets addressed urgently in the next stable version of Pix4Dmatic.
@maal we are sorry that we broke your current workflows, and that you need to reprocess projects. It’s a really unfortunate consequence of our change. I confirm that enabling a single-file OBJ export is one of our top priorities. Since the current preview release does not get the job done for you, you will have to roll back to the latest stable version (1.76.1) until we release the next one.
Do you upload the mesh to PIX4Dcloud so that other people (clients?) in your organization can download it?
