Can I use the cloud processing service to mosaic radiometric thermal imagery?
Hi Anthony,
Yes, you can process thermal imagery on our cloud but you will have to create the project on the desktop first and then upload it to cloud. Below I will explain you why.
When uploading directly to the cloud, the dataset will be processed with the 3D maps template which is not suitable for a low-resolution sensor as a thermal one. Hence to obtain satisfactory results, I would recommend the following:
-
Create a new project on the desktop using the radiometric jpeg or grayscale tiff imagery
-
Make sure the camera model is correctly assigned to the project
-
Opt for Thermal Camera template
-
Upload it to the cloud (see How-to-upload-project-files-from-the-desktop )
Cheers,
Ina
Dear Ina!
We are unable to upload our thermal image based project to the cloud.
We have the following error message (source files can be downloaded from here: https://we.tl/31ukBsgYrJ ):

Thank you for sharing the files with me. I have tested it on my side, and I could not reproduce it.
Could you install the latest version of Pix4Dmapper (4.2.27): https://cloud.pix4d.com/download/.
Also, could it be that the Internet connection is not powerful enough and has some interruptions?
Additionally please note that you should upload teh thermal imagery in one project and teh RGB imagery in another one.
Thank you,
Ina
Dear Ina,
It is working up until 2-3% and than gives an error message again. It is purely a thermal project, no RGB involved. Our internet connection is not super reliable, but I would imagine upload has some protocol implemented to try if there is a small amount of interruption. The error message is slightly different now. But I would guess this must be the internet if you do not have an upload mechanism like dropbox or google drive.
Best Regards,
Gabor

The only thing that it puzzles me is that I have successfully uploaded the images from my side. This is the fact that leads me to internet connections.
Would it be possible for you to try uploading using another internet connection?
Cheers,
Ina
Hello Ina,
So i am interested in cloud processing for creating a thermal mosaic. I noticed you referenced https://support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/202558589-How-to-upload-project-files-from-the-desktop . I guess I am wondering at what point you do the upload? Is it before you do any processing on the desktop? I apologize if I am missing something obvious.
Greg
Hi Gregory,
Once the settings are done, you can directly upload it to Cloud. No local processing is necessary a priori.
Cheers,
Ina
Hi,
I get the same error messages while uploading files. If I upload the project from another workstation it works find. Did you solve the problem? What is the solution?
Kind regards

Are you uploading from an external drive? Are both workstation on the same internet connection?
Usually it is recommended to upload the files from your local workstation.
Hope this will help,
Best
Hi Marco,
I tried to upload the project from the local workstation (Pix4Dmapper actual version).
The 2nd workstation was my laptop, also in the same network.
All files are located on the workstation or laptop, no external drive.
From the laptop I have no problem uploading the project with Pix4Dmapper but it does not work from the workstation.
Any idea?
Kind regards
Karsten Grebing
Did you get such error?
Another user reported such issue:
My last recommendation would be to make sure that there is no special character and to store the images next to the *.p4d file.
However several users have reported such behavior, including my self.
I have raised the issue to our developers. There might be something wrong with Pix4Dmapper.
For now, I would recommend you to try my last recommendations.
And I will keep you updated if we can find what’s wrong there.
Thank you
Best
Hi @Pix4D_Alumni_MV,
yes, I get the same error message.
I’ve stored the images in a directory “RAW” which is in the same directory as the *.p4d file is stored. The filename of the directory is 20200305_FH OBB_01, so no specual characters. When copying the whole folder to my laptop on the same network, the upload works perfectly.
Any idea why?
kind regards
Karsten
There is no Pix4Dmapper issue. It seems that it is kind of timeout problem.
Some users reported that they have already experienced such behavior in the past.
Sometimes closing and restarting the software does the trick. Sometimes it works after several attempts. For now I cannot provide you a better explanation about that.
Sorry about that,
Best
