Hello all,
MAC is in beta and there might be issues that affect processing. Moreover, the latest Pix4D Desktop version that is supported by MAC is the 3.0.18, while the latest Windows version is 3.2.23 (stable). Our developers are working on a new MAC version but we are unable to provide any timeline regarding the release of this. In case that you have a machine running Windows we recommend using this for processing.
In case you do not possess a Windows computer as a workaround for the moment, you canĀ indeed install bootcamp on your mac device so that you can use the 3.2.23 version.
Regarding the processing time, it is very difficult to estimate it as it depends on many parameters as you can see in the following article:Ā https://support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/204191535.Ā
Different steps of processing use the resources in a different way as you can see here:Ā https://support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/202559519.
The processing options selected play a very important role in the amount of time it will take for a step to be completed.
The Radeon HD 5750Ā is quite old GPU and has only 1 GB of RAM. GPUs with at least 2 GB of RAM are used for processing, which significantly improves the processing time. Otherwise the entire processing of step 1 is performed on the CPU, which makes it much slower.
Regards,
Many thanks. Iām having a problem using bootcamp and running the last version on my Apple Mac Pro (late 2013): during the process the log output window shows "
RAM 13 % CPU 0%
Why CPU percentage is equal to zero?
Another question, please. How can I set a logo different from āPix4Dmapper Pro logoā in a Video Animation Trajectory rendering? I would prefer to set mine (Engineer Antonio Anelli-UAV Pilot and Operator) instead of Pix4Dmapper Pro, of course! Iām preparing a work and I need a fast answer, fast as soon as possible. On May 17th I asked this question without an answer. Thanks.
Ā
@antonioanelli render/export it without the log and then add logo/animation/graphics or whatever you like in Final Cut Pro or similar.
Ā
I to would like the feature to be reinstated, it was removed sometime ago for some reason.
@Damien Ranford: thanks for your suggestion. Iāll try it using iMovie.
Ā
I havenāt seen any activity on this thread in a while. Any updates on a stable release for Mac OS X?
@Apoges Inc and Pix4D: Iām waiting for since November 2015. I think that itās the moment to realize the promises! Waiting for a fast answer: itās very hard and expensive switch on and off from OS X to Windows 10.
Hallo Support, is Version 3.0 for Mac the latest Version. Since Jan 2017 - is time gone⦠Regards Siggi
Iām trialing Pix4d right now. I just installed the Mac beta on my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011). Running 32 GB Ram and a 2TB fusion drive. I am running the latest OS X High Sierra 10.13 version.
The app installed fine, and setup was relatively easy. One thing I did notice when it opened is that my existing cloud projects did not show up. I had just run a 3d mapping mission, so I had to start a new project on the Mac app to import the photos. The file import interface worked well (hoping this works because drag and drop to the cloud are not working for me).Ā
One point- CMD+A to select all did not work in the file selection window, I selected the first image and then IĀ held shift while selecting the last to get all to select. CMD-A would be nice for large file number imports (or a simple āselect allā button.Ā
The photo processing actually went pretty well. With my older processor, the CPU definitely maxed out but the 23 images only took about 15 minutes. RAM usage was negligible. GPU fluctuated between 30-80% load.
Iāll update here later after I play around with the results. I am HIGHLY interested in this OS X build. This will easily put me over the top in committing to buy as I am looking for the capability to process images on site, without internet connectivity outside normal cell tethering.
Hi,
this version runs ok on High Sierra (10.13) + imac 27 5K 2017 + SSD 1T (APFS file sistem) + 40GB 2.4mhz DDR4 + Radeon Pro 580 8 GB
Important update
We changed our licensing system and now make mandatory the use of the latest version for trial users. However, as the macOS version is 3.0.18 (development still on-hold at the moment) while the latest version is currently 4.0.21, it is not possible to use a trial.
To use Pix4D Desktop, please contact the sales team so we provide a workaround.
Sincere apologies for the inconvenience.
@julie- Iām currently evaluating your software as well as others for use in my company. The desktop version IĀ am using is the Mac OS X beta. Could you explain any differences or improvements that I could take into account Ā between 3.0.18 and 4.0.21
Could you explain any differences or improvements that I could take into account between 3.0.18 and 4.0.21 since I cannot see them on your trial?
Also, since you stated Mac OS X development is on hold- is it your firmās current intent to continue development and support or are you looking at discontinuing?
Please find the latest communicationĀ on the status of the macOS version in the original post.Ā
@Eric Dorenbush: this should also answer your question. As for the differences between the versions, I would redirect you to the release notes of our windows version:Ā https://support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/hc/en-us/sections/200590969Ā
Dear all,
the main/original post has just been updated with information about the status of the macOS version.Ā
Ah, thats very disappointing, I was looking forward to a renewed deveopment this year leading to a stable release, I use the beta daily in my workflow and apart from some functionality differences - its an extremlely stable version.Ā

This is a bad new.
The thing is⦠how do I have to pay same price for macos beta unstable version as for stable windows updated version??
Please, at least ⦠change price, otherwise pix4d itās over for me.

ExtremelyĀ disappointing. Last year IĀ chose Pix4D over AgiSoft in large part because of the promiseĀ that a full Mac version would be released very shortly. It now seems that I ought to have gone the other way. As I donāt have the budget to switch, I now find myself locked into aĀ version of the software that will become increasingly obsolete, unless I switch my entire workflow over to a different computing platform. I feel more than a little deceived.

I agree with Jonathan and other commentators, this is unacceptable.Ā There needs to be a significant rebate to those who have invested in the MacOS version, especially those who went for the lifelong plan.Ā How is Pix4D going to address this as a matter of urgency please?
