Transferring Pix4Dmapper projects between computers

Hello,

I recently got a new computer adn have tried to move all of my Pix4D projects to that new computer with an external harddrive. Even if when I zip the accessory files before moving, I can’t fully load the orthomosiac on the new computer. I can open the pix4d project, and I can open the orthomosaic tif separately, but when I load the mosaic edior the images only half load and remain blurry. The Log Output is full of : [Error]: Loader [name of file_mosaic_group@4x12390x5909@1]: failed to load image! messages.

I don’t want to regenerate the orthomosaic because I have already edited it in mosaic editor. This problem is not solved when I hit Save or Export from the mosiac editing panel.

How can I transfer projects between computers? This appears to happen if I move the stitches within the working directory of one computer as well.

Thanks!

Hi momcente,

You should be able to move the entire project folder along with the images to a new location without issue. Most users have issues with the images, as these are necessary for opening projects.

Are you able to open the project but just not the orthomosaic?

Yes; I reset the directory to the image folder and can load the project fine. I can open the mosaic editor too, it just doesn’t load at the resolution it does on the old computer and it gives me those errors.

Can you upload the .log file? I want to see all the errors that are recorded.

Here’s the log! This is after clicking Mosaic Editor. As you can see the mosaic loads, but it’s pixelated and blurry.

Sorry, we need the .log file. The screenshot doesn’t help. You can find the .log file in the file path below.

▸ The project log file (text file): …\project_name\project_name.log

Sorry, here’s an example log from me trying to load the orthomosaic today!

We looked at your log file, and this is not a very common error we see. We are curious if you are able to open your orthomosaic in a GIS software like QGIS or ArcGIS. If so, what is the quality of the orthomosaic? Any issues?

We are also curious if you had made edits to the orthomosaic on the initial computer.

I also noticed that your GPU driver is out-of-date. Anytime we see problems with imagery and graphics, we look at the GPU. So, the link below will allow you to download the latest driver for your NVIDIA RTX A2000 12GB GPU. Please see if this helps.

I installed the driver and re-opened the project with the same result. The latest project log is attached.

The orthomosaic tif file is fine; I can open it in QGIS and it looks good! It’s not pixelated like the mosaic editor is.

I would like for you to do a complete uninstall of Mapper. This includes deleting some leftover folders that can sometimes become corrupted. Please follow the steps in the article below.

I will try that today and let you know, but for context this happens when I move files either direction between two computers, so I don’t think it has to do with the Mapper install.

Also I don’t know if I answered the previoous question; yes, I did make some edits to the mosiac on the original computer, that’s why I don’t want to just regenerate the mosaic completely.

I uninstalled and reinstalled following the instructions. I get the same errors as before, log attached.

This behavior is very strange. It makes me want to look at your storage drive. What is your D: drive? Is this an internal SSD, or is a network, or external HHD? Network and external HHDs can be slow and unstable. There might be a problem loading the orthomosaic if this is the case.

Hi Mike!

It’s stored on an internal SSD. As I said, this happens when I try to move files either way between two computers, so I don’t think it’s really about one computer’s specific settings.

Thanks for continuing to try figure this out!
