This project was flown with our phantom 4 pro, mainly for earthworks progress quantities.

I fly this site weekly to calculate the remaining cut to fill

Jaakko and Adam Jordan. In looking at the scaling issue I have seen on my phone that the horizontal was correct and the vertical appeared to be off by a scale of the conversion of feet to meters. However on my computer I seen the horizontal was then also off by a scale of feet to meters. I set the project up in the desktop version and set it to process in feet at local state plane coordinates. When I downloaded the point cloud and data everything is correct in the world with no scaling issues and everything measured out right. The contours look good and don’t show the vehicles at all. The buildings are at the normal 25-30’ tall and the horizontal is correct. It seems to be a units issue where it’s in feet and it thinks it’s meters is what I get out of the cloud based viewer. Not really good to be seeing and trying to put out there in the challenge but I’m glad my data looks good once I downloaded it.

Good afternoon friends,
I am excited to show the 2D and 3D map located in the city of Tarapoto in Peru with which I will participate in the PIX4D challenge.

I decided this place for what it looks for the champion in the topographic theme. It is a quarry where there is the need to measure distances, areas and volumes, finally this place will be lotized for sale, since it has a good view of the city.
I hope you like it and can get some place hehehe.

We had some gorgeous weather in the central California foothills this past Friday, and jumped at the opportunity to join in the fun!

Best of luck to everyone, and thanks to Pix4d for the friendly competition!

Catching the last train, although we didn’t intend to wait until the last day.

We didn’t want heritage to be underrepresented, so we decided to submit 13th-century burgh Medvedgrad placed on the mountain Medvednica above our capital Zagreb.

Our Pix4D logo is in surveying style

We’ve used Phantom 4 Pro and 8 GCPs.

Glad we are part of this challenge. Had a good fun watching all those great models (like Jakko’s and Joseph’s the most) and spent some good time in getting up with ideas and it’s realization!

@Jason Wallace: Pretty piece of Texas!

@Dan Yakir: Nice garden! I had a look at the quality report, some cameras seem to have been shifted at the wrong place during calibration. Adam was on the right track here. If you have time, I would create a second project and would give it a shot with the “Alternative” calibration method, so that the software stays closer to the initial camera positions. Thereby, hopefully improving the reconstruction. This can be select in Process > Processing Options > 1. Initial Processing > (check the Advanced checkbox in the bottom left of the processing options) > Calibration > Calibration Method. In any case, no stress, your current submissions are valid and will be considered for the challenge.

@Brandon @Adam @Jaakko: Well spotted! There was an issue with the scale of the mesh when it was displayed on the cloud. This is fixed in the new version of the Cloud that was released yesterday, so from now on this should not happen anymore. No need to change anything for your submission, as the mesh is not evaluated for the challenge. :)

@Joseph Cerreta: You made my day!

@Chauvet Clément: The geometry of the map content looks very nice with the conveyor belts and all the stockpiles.

@Travis Howell: Thanks for explaining how you proceed, it’s very interesting. The fact that you have done one nadir flight and one flight with a slightly tilted angle can be seen in how well both the orthomosaic and point cloud look good!

@Ken Bork: One word: amazing!

@Brendan Lawrence: Looks like a fairly large site, is the project to build a new residential area? Interesting to have a look at your work!

@Daniel Goigochea: Great video! It really gives another perspective on the area and project. Greetings to Peru!

@J. Correa: There seems to be a nice BBQ place next to the houses!

@Filip Kovačić: Sleeping beauty  Impressive point cloud and location and nice surveying Pix4D logo. Good job!

@all: Tonight at 23:59 (CET) is the deadline for the challenge! Looking forward to the last submissions

 Hi all,

Sorry for such a late submission we just got our drone back from the repair shop two days ago, after 2 Months of waiting… Someone decided to run it into a tree while doing some test flights in the mountains. We wont name any names… None the less I am excited to get our drone back into the air, just in time to enter into this challenge and make sure that everything is in working order. I am having major issues with the geo-tagging on the images, my guess it is the fimware update DJI just did, hoping to get this figured out today. We use a DJI Matrice 200 with a Zenmuse X5S camera. I flew this project twice. Fist flight was using the Pix4d capture app, which I was very excited to see it supporting our drone now. Second I used the DJI GSP which is an okay app, not as good or as many options as Pix4D, but in a pinch does what I need it to do. I used 7 GCP’s and 4 Manual tie points. With the Geo-tagging such and issue I had to lower the accuracy of the Geo referencing almost to null and rely strictly on a local control network… Yeah those GCP’s were fun…

Anyways here is my project:  https://cloud.pix4d.com/pro/project/260449?shareToken=44e2c265b7f844a59f860b1c658e608d

Since our main goal daily is to create products with extremely accurate results - we opted to use this opportunity to cut loose and have a little fun. Accept this as our creative entry. Probably the most inaccurate submission based on the flight profile flown, but as we said - we wanted to have a little fun.

Well after numerous misalignment issues and lots of crashes in the Cloud, my project just got done a few minutes ago…

https://cloud.pix4d.com/pro/project/259828/mesh?shareToken=5fb11e84d65744fcbe04faf668ebd64f

There is some ghosting in the orthomosaic that I don’t see when I process on my desktop and I don’t see in the Cloud’s point cloud either…strange but still in there after 4+ processing attempts in the Cloud.

@John,

The most creative without any doubts, I love it!!!

Very creative John but you need to use the Share link for the project.

And it is too late now but you could fly the mission a few times to provide more overlap and accuracy.

Some very creative submissions! All great work. Here is ours with a little background to previous projects in the area.

The cliff faces at Happisburgh along the Norfolk coastline are composed of poorly consolidated glacial till deposits and are under threat from severe erosion. At GeoDrone Survey Ltd we have been monitoring this erosion with a series of drone flights for the last few years. This has involved numerous flights where the products from Pix4D and manned airborne LiDAR have been used within GIS to produce average erosion rates and basic cliff stability indices. This flight was completed with an AscTec Falcon 8 with A7R payload. Please see the maps attached along with a link to the model below.

Nice Project John Wolcott! You defiantly put some thought into that one!

I posted a project early today and just noticed that it is “Pending Approval”… any ideas why the project wont go through?
