I’m just wondering why they discontinued the regular parrot disco. Maybe if they made it more usable with more capabilities (hint hint Pix4D), it would have stuck around. People buy these types of drones for a reason.
I believe they are “dumping” the Parrot - literally. Think about it. When all the standard Discos are gone off the market they can start again with more commercial products.
The next commercial Disco will have a RGB mapping camera in it and might be $7000. It will sell.
We snapped up 3 Discos and are looking at getting 3 more before they are gone.
If you have owned an eBee before you will know the Disco is a better airframe with the ability to run Arduplane on it.
So at this point I am not going to hassle PIX4D for something they choose not to give us for commercial reasons. You can’t blame them for that.
What I will do is have all my Discos lined up in the workshop for whatever the open source community comes up with the solution.
It a roll of the dice but what I am sure of is that the airframe has all the potential in the world.
(Isn’t that right P4D ? ;-)

Doesn’t the pro ag use the parrot chuck also ?
if so its just a case of getting our hands on the pro ag firmware and side loading it into Chuck
As far as know, the Pro Ag is the exact same setup with the Sequoia Camera added. It has different firmware in the Chuck so it knows that it is a Pro Ag model.
well then it should not be a big issue to get this thing up and going as a PRO AG
Hi, I’m also interested to use Pix4d Capture with a basic Parrot Disco for personal experiments. As the last message from Fergus Mahon is near one month dated, I would like to know if someone progressed in using the Disco with Pix4d Capture ?

We decided to give it away and load the aircraft up with Arduplane.
Its a better flight software platform anyway and your not going to get any help from PIX4D with this…

Thanks for your reply John. I don’t know Arduplane but I already used Arducopter on DIY quadcopter (on deprecated APM hardware). I agree that it is a fabulous platform including the mission planner software. But could you explain how you achieve image mapping function that Pix4d has ?

En mi opinión, Parrot no tiene ningún incentivo para ofrecer esta funcionalidad para la Disco. Sienten que no tiene sentido comercial cuando pueden vender Disco Pro Ag por $ 4,500 y la gente pagará eso.

Ok! So how about to plug in a SEQUOIA camera to the C.H.U.C.K flight controller?
You could always just keep using the Parrot Free Flyer Pro app with flight planning, and to process your images you could try Open Drone Mapper. There is a web based version called WebODM and it works great as long as your images are geotagged. The disco is great, so put it to work!!

El dia 25 de febrero de este año 2018, pude usar mi Parrot Disco FPV (Mi Disco standar) con la App Pix4Dcapture, primero lo iniciaba en la App Ctrl+Parrot y me lo reconocio como un Parrot Pro AG, puede crear un plan de vuelo y cargarlo al Parrot y lo envie a volar. Lo que paso es que el Parrot no siguió la ruta con precision, el parrot hacia varias vueltas y luego intentaba seguir con la ruta. No capturo ninguna imagen con la cámara frontal, me imagino que la App penso que andaba la camara SEQUOIA porque simulaba que si tomaba fotos. En fin el Parrot finalizo la ruta y aterrizo tal y como lo habia programado en el plan de vuelo.
Lo cuestionable podria ser que la App Pix4Dcapture si puede tomar fotos con el Bebop2, pero me imagino que es más dirigido a misiones circulares ó para modelos en 3d y no para mapeo debido a que el mismo Parrot Disco con la App FreFlight Pro y comprando la extensión se pueden hacer planes de vuelo, la cuadricula se hace prácticamente a mano y no de forma automática, pero si lo mandas en una mision y le pones que tome fotos con una inclinación maxima permitida de 83°, este te pide elegir el formato de fotografía entre 4 opciones (RAW, JPEG, CAPTURA DE PANTALLA, JPEG 180°) debido a que me interesa la mayor calidad de imagen, elegí formato JPEG, pero en esta opción la foto simpre será frontal y no con los 83° de inclinación. Obviamente esto no sirve para mapeo, entonces tuve que elegir la opción “Captura de Pantalla”, en esta sí toma lo que va viendo el dron con 83° de inclinación pero la resolución es de 2Mpx, es muy baja calidad para generar una buena ortofoto. Nunca he usado un dron Bebop2 con Pix4Dcapture, y no se si toma fotos a 12Mpx viendo hacia abajo de forma programada.
Se me ocurrio modificar mi Parrot, le instalé una GoPro6 de la misma manera que va la SEQUOIA, y me funcionó muy bien, pero trabajan, GoPro y Parrot de manera independientes.
Aquí viene lo bueno. Si bien no ocupaba que Pix4D me hiciera todo el trabajo, si necesitaba el plan de vuelo para mi Disco, y ahora no aparece en las lista de Drones, lo han eliminado. Me gustaria que permitan el uso del Parrot Disco en Pix4D, los parametros para las rutas y planes de vuelo me imagino son las mismas que para el Parrot SEQUOIA, y pueden agregar que haga fotografías con la camara frontal como captura de pantalla, si bien nos podemos conformar que lo haga en esa baja calidad de 2Mpx. A mi personalmente no me afecta porque le adapte la GoPro6 y solo necesitaria el plan de vuelo.
