Nvidia RTX A3000

I tried contacting Pix4d weeks ago via their contact page but never heard back so I thought I’d post here.

I have a client looking to get a high end laptop to replace his current laptop. He uses Pix4d as one of his main applications. It is an i7 with 6core/12threads , 32gb RAM and has a Quadro P600 which has only 384 CUDA cores. The replacement laptop will have 8cores / 16 threads, 128gb RAM and 4096 cuda cores in the A3000 graphics card.

Before he purchases his laptop for about $8000 or something, I have a question about compatibility with Pix4d and can’t really find anything definitive about it other than there’s a possibility performance might be impacted by some kind of compatibility bug as I read the 3080 or 3090 had some problems. I’d like to know that this Ampere based A3000 card is compatible and will perform very well before helping him with this purchase.

Does anyone have any experience with this particular mobile card?

I have a 3090 and run Pix4DMapper with no issues.

Does your client need a laptop? Because $8,000 will buy a much more powerful desktop.

Hi manse.mason

It is difficult for us at PIX4D to recommend any particular piece of hardware. However we have teamed up with a company called Puget Systems. They have done numerous testing of our software with different hardware configurations. I suggest visiting their website to understand their recommendations.

The client does indeed need a laptop as he’s always travelling. Good to know that an Ampere card works well with Pix4d.

Thanks for the info. I wasn’t necessarily looking for recommendations as much as compatibility assurances. It seems that the program works with Ampere cards and this laptop has an Ampere based card so I assume it should be fine. I see no testing done anywhere on this A3000 specifically though.
