Image Acquisition Plans and Pix4D's suggestions

I am just curious about a few things Pix4D suggests with image acquisition plans:

For double grid missions they suggest,:

“For the facades to be visible, the images should be taken with an angle between 10º and 35º”

Except when you go to plan a mission in Pix4Dcapture you can only chose between 45º and 80º. Perhaps 10º being 80º, and 35º being 55º?

Second, they suggest for circular missions:

  • Fly around the building a first time with a 45° camera angle.
  • Fly a second and third time around the building increasing the flight height and decreasing the camera angle with each round.

Except in the mission planner in Pix4Dcapture you can’t pick your camera angles.

Are they suggesting we use other apps?

Hi Hoolihan,

Pix4Dcapture is optimized for both double grid and circular mission but we noticed that camera angles definitions are not consistent and need to be updated:

As you already mentioned, the 10° is 80° and 35º is 55º in Pix4Dcapture.

In the circular mission, the drone translates to always face the point of interest (DJI GO / DJI GO 4 feature). The camera angle is set so that it points toward the ground. In other words, the camera angle is adjusted automatically and is closer to vertical when the flight altitude is higher.

Thank you for pointing out the inconsistency between the article and settings in the app.

Best,
