Help trying to assess a pit volume in Pix4dMatic

Hi. I am trying to assess the volume of this pit. When I use the volume tool, and calculate, the cut volume is nowhere near accurate. The pit is approx 40m deep. Can someone please assist in what i am doing wrong? Thank you

If someone could please help me with a workflow? I believe Pix4 Matic cannot accomplish this. I am happy to purchase a software package (I am currently on trial), but I want to know it will be about to calculate volume of heaps and pits. Thank you.

Hi @smaughan

How did you compute the volume? How far was the result with respect to your reference value?

By the way, we have an article that explain how to use the volume computation in PIX4Dmatic → Volumes - PIX4Dmatic

Regards

I followed the guide. If i find a baseline surface, select the area, the area seems highlighted correctly, and can be observed from above and below as reasonable. When I calculate the fill volume, it comes in at somewhere between 5-10% of what the actual number would be. The pit is quite large, approx 40m deep,140m x 110m opening. I would estimate north of 500,000m3 would be reasonable. However the application calculates it somewhere between 40,000-70,000m3.

I assume it is taking a slice of the selected area difference in height, and not the fill volume of the void.

I am assessing the trial, and so far there seems no way to program this application to permit the true values to be calumniated. Hoping I am doing something wrong?

Hello,

The fill volume computation should normally work fine for this use case. To help us better understand what is happening, would you mind sharing a screenshot showing the volume boundary rectangle? Additionally, could you send either a screenshot of the properties side panel or the computed results as a CSV file?

To export the CSV, you can go to: File → Export → Geometries, then select Format: CSV and Geometry: Volumes.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Alexey
