Sand castle built and 3D mapped by Emmanuel d’Angelo

Hy everyone,

Let’s go to the beach!

Our colleague Emmanuel d’Angelo built and 3D mapped this sand castle:

Emmanuel told us the story of the castle and the 3D model:

“After spending the afternoon at the beach with my daughter, it was time to go back to our hotel. To be able to revive the moment again with her, I decided to save the sand castle we built together before the tide washed it away. So I quickly grabbed my phone and made a movie of the sand castle and its surroundings.

With my iPhone 6 in video mode (Full HD), I tried to circle around the castle, not too fast in order to have a nice overlap and avoid blur. I finished the video clip by ensuring I had also some top views and close-ups of the sand towers.

When I created the project in Pix4Dmapper pro 3.3.19 on my desktop, I added the video and extracted one image every 4 frames.

I used the 3D model template, only checking additionally the “geometrically verified matching” option. I then sliced the most interesting part of the mesh in Meshlab (free software)”.
