I know it has been asked before if Matic will get an orthomosaic editor but I haven’t seen any progress or updates on that. Is there any other way to remove ghosting on the orthomosaic after processing? I have selected deghosting options during processing with little improvement.
Where this issue comes up the most is during crash scenes. We can’t always close down all lanes so we may have cars passing through scene or sometimes an investigator will be walking through our scene/crime scene. This leads to the car or officer showing up in some photos which leads to ghosted images of them in the ortho. In Mapper’s orthomosaic editor we could easily remove this ghosting but not seeing any way to do so in Matic. Any suggestions or am I missing an ortho editor feature somewhere?
Hello @byoungasu , deghosting option may have struggled in some cases. For example, the parked car of an officer or a vehicle moving slowly through the scene is particularly challenging.
PIX4Dmatic has the “mask workflow” that can help in this case: you can click on the images and generate a mask for the selected object you want to remove. The masks will be used to “remove” the object during orthomosaic generation (or dense/meshing). Auto masking feature can also be used to further reduce manual masking: you provide a few examples of what you want to remove and the tool will propose more masks.
If you are interested to discuss PIX4Dmatic workflows for orthomosaic or in general about AI/ML automation, I would be happy to reach out and hear about your thoughts.
From my perspective, the masking functionality in PIX4Dmatic is a partial solution, but it does not truly address what many users are asking for. In fact, it adds extra steps for the user compared to the simpler workflow we had in PIX4Dmapper, where direct editing of the generated orthomosaic was possible.
As many users have requested over the years: please bring back the ability to directly edit orthomosaics in PIX4Dmatic — just like in PIX4Dmapper.
Currently, PIX4Dmatic is the only photogrammetry software I’m aware of that doesn’t offer a straightforward way to edit an orthomosaic. This is a core functionality and I believe it deserves a higher priority on your feature roadmap. Just saying. Again.
That said, I really appreciate the progress being made with each new release. The monthly updates show clear improvements, and it’s great to see how PIX4Dmatic is steadily becoming a more powerful and user-friendly tool.
