I am looking for wisdom from those more experienced than me… I started flying RGB+MS at a lower height, and the flight durations increased a LOT.
I was flying to identify Corn Emergence (VE) and need to be pretty low to see much. Much of what I was flying was V1.
My questions:
- Is anyone really , truly, interested in emergence? (Does anyone really ever replant?)
- How high are people typically flying when collecting RGB+MS?
- How often are people typically flying over the same field?
I’m looking forward to the conversation
-Mike
Hi Mike,
Thank you for your comment and for creating this discussion. For all questions, the answer will be, it depends
1- A farmer will replant if the density of plants is very low due to a bad emergency, weather damage, etc. In most cases, plant counting is done between v2 and v4.
2 and 3, will really depend on what you are trying to identify/detect. Please visit Corn & Drones: A Practical Field Guide
Lets wait for other user’s comments
Thanks, Jose.
I’ve seen that field guide. It is a very, very good summary. We need one for Soybean, too! (hint, hint)
- I guess I am wondering if any farmers really need to study emergence with a drone and would act on what a drone illustrates. In my 30+ years of being around farming I’ve only heard of a single time someone replanted. And the need was obvious. I am curious if people are finding use of a drone useful for emergence…
- & 3. Can’t wait to learn from others on these, too!
