Desktop Flight Plan

I forgot to mention that no portion of any flight line segment is either linear or parallel to any other flight line segment anywhere throughout the mission plan.  This offers a) a more diverse view perspective as well as b) real potential to mitigate the systematic SFM doming/dishing elevation error - check the research literature from 2014 forward.

James, that is great but what folks want is a desktop version of Pix4D Capture to plan the missions.  For the life of me I can not understand why Pix4D won’t create that.  Litchi has had a desktop (web based) option for years now.  Why can’t Pix4D do the same thing.  There is something wrong here and maybe someday we will find out what it is, maybe not.

There are several critical things that I think we need:

  1. Be able to use a web based mission planner on a desktop like Litchi.  Litchi has had one for years!!
  2. Be able to import KML files on iOs and a Web Browser based planner (like Litchi)
  3. Be able to draw Exclusion zones.  In areas where we fly low level mission or in a 100’ AGL FAA zone, I need to draw a circle around the 300’ Cell tower so that the drone will simply fly around that tower.  it is a hot mess to plan a low level mission around a tall object that you must fly around, but map all around it.  It should be so easy to plan a mission and draw an “exclusion circle or polygon” to remove that area from the mission.

People ask for improvements on the image acquisition app but nothing but crickets… ok so we get the response that "We will turn this over to our development team… :0

That’s all.  I am back to smiles

Forgive me; but I forgot to mention that the output includes CSV, kmz/kml, and ESRI/shape file formats - ready to load into a variety of flight control software.

Tim you’re exactly right.

I’ve switched to Drone Deploy for all my planning and flights. being able to plan a mission by importing a kml and quickly setting parameters is great for quoting. and if the job comes through all you have to do is go out and open the app in the field and hit  takeoff.

Tim:  The software is written in C# to run on the web, a desktop, a laptop, or a phone.  Pix4D is welcome to the waypoint generator if they really want it.  I’m not in the software business; but I recognized the same issues you have experienced.  Maybe you (and other Pix4D users) can convince them to use it as a base and code around my code.  Note:  for quadcopters, there are no turnout loops.  Quadcopters simply fly around in continuous trajectories without having to stop, change directions, and start flying again - all burning battery.

Pix4d thinks that it is not necessary!!! Try to plan a 60km long linear mission with over 100 bends on 4" screen android device…

I needed to fly a newly constructed solar farm.  The online maps (ie google maps) are not updated but the customer provided KML files for the different clusters that needed to be flown.  I have iPad mini 4’s and that is what I use.  Import is not an option with Pix4D Capture on iOs so I had to use Drone Deploy.  So not only can I not desktop plan, I can’t import KML files either.

Often when companies are being packaged up for sale, they cut all expenses.  I do not know if that is the case here but there is a reason that Pix4D to go multiple years giving us the finger on highly needed features like this one.  I guess in time we will find out.

+1 for desktop planning.

I’ve been following this particullar thread for almost three years and despite the response from Pix4D that they went from “not in the pipeline” to actively doing something about it I see no  actual progress whatsoever!!!

We all still continue to use third party (often free of charge !!!) software to plan our misssions on a desktop.

I trully am buffled as to why they CONTINUE to ignore the whole point.

Yep, 3 years. amazing. And you can not do an address search or import KML to create a mission on your ipad. So if you want to create a mission in the office on the ipad (because there is no desktop planning) then it is very tedious to do it.

Pix4d, Make this happen NOW!
We are considering switching to another processing software that does incorporate this and other features mentioned above.
Subscription renewal time is coming up…

+1 for this update

Hi Julie, have any developments been made in the vein of planning flights via desktop? IMO it would improve the utility of the software and help to create more efficient flight plans. Thanks! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi All, new to the forum. Is there any update on desktop planning yet?

Am I right in thinking that if I create a project and missions on one android device, they are NOT then synced to other android devices on the same account?

Again for us, being able to work with KML’s on a desktop (even cloud based if necessary) to plan missions then for it to upload to the cloud and be available on any android (or iOS) device connected to the internet would be a very much needed feature.

We have been using Measure Ground Control as a degree of planning is available in this, but would like to use Pix4d Capture as it also allows for circular missions…

Even some basic project / mission syncronisation across devices on the same account (pre mission, NOT post) would be advantageous right now.

Is there an update on the status of this feature request?

Thanks,

Greg

I can’t believe this feature is still having to be asked for. Show’s that they clearly don’t care what their customers actually want.

Hello everyone,

There are no plans to implement flight plans on the desktop in 2020. If things change, we will post here to inform the community.

Thank you
