[Android, iOS] Parrot ANAFI support

@Martin Bogaert Is it very complicated to convert Bebop 2 pix4d-flight plans into flightplans for the Freeflight 6-App? We are on a excavation and plan to do a session tommorrow before we start digging all up.

Hi BB !

I did not convert but rather used a simple and pragmatic way:

  1. I made up a flightplan of an area in Pix4D, using the settings for Parrot BEBOP 2;

  2. I positioned this Pix4D flightplan as large as possible but completely visible and took a SCREENSHOT of it;

  3. Looking at the screenshot (which can be enlarged now) on my laptop, I made up a NEW Flightplan in FreeFlight 6 (I used a TABLET with 9.2" screen diameter - a smartphone is too small for this job) for my ANAFI;

  4. Checked everything duly and used the cam settings JPEG WIDE and CAM vertically down 90° during the whole flight;

  5. Used the flight settings : speed 5 mps on the laps and the cam setting 1 picture per 5 seconds;

  6. Saved this Flightplan (FP) and checked all settings again.

  7. Went to the field and executed;

  8. At home I imported all images into the Pix4D Trial program and got great results;

  9. Doubled this in Agisoft Photoscan Standard with even great results; except for the geographical data; got a nice mesh in 3D.

BB: My last project from yesterday:

  • In Pix4D (Parrot BEBOP 2 settings: a Project over a field adjacent to a large forest: 331 x 238 meters - 50 m altitude (due to the high trees) / this created a 15 single lap flightplan with a total time of 20 minutes;

  • In Freeflight 6 (ANAFI settings as described above) => resulted in the same 15 single lap FP (JPEG Wide - cam 90° vertically down - 5 mps / 1 pps) BUT… total flight time of 13’ 12" !

I executed this FP three times - the ANAFI executed this FP (with and without wind) simply perfect (I always check all results in the Parrot logs and projected on the map and in Google Earth Pro. Marvellous little drone!!! SUPER.

If I’ll find time, I’ll make a clip about these flights. Yesterday there was a military exercise going on and a Hercules C-130 crossed the flightplan of the brave ANAFI… I have this also on film (took some clips with a handheld cam from my ground station)…

I hope I helped you a bit with my "poor man’s system’! I am really looking forward to the implementation of the ANAFI into Pix4D - this will be better and easier for us!

Kind regards - Martin

Thank you very much for the explanation.

Luckily you can read the pix4d flightplan saved in your smartphone with your browser, so you get the exact coordinates. But sadly I can nowhere find the Freeflight Flightplan datas to insert the same coordinates, the saved plans are somewhere hiding in my phone :frowning: And double sad, you can’t creat flightmissions on your desktop with freeflight, very annoying but no topic here.

Hi all

The Parrot Anafi is now officially supported by Pix4Dcapture on both Android and iOS platform.

  • From 13/09/2018, on iOS, version V4.0.0 has been released together with Parrot Anafi support.
  • From 14/09/2018, on Android, version V4.4.0 has been released together with Parrot Anafi support. Be aware that to make it work you will need to download Ctrl+Parrot 2 new plugin.

For users using the Anafi Work bundle (Anafi+Pix4Dmodel), we strongly recommend making the flight plans using Pix4Dcapture to get better results.

Enjoy flying the Parrot Anafi using Pix4Dcapture!

Best,

Great news! Thank you so much! I hope it will be available for the weekend, will execute some experiments!

Thanks again. Martin

Waaahhh… first I was very excited about the news that you support Anafi now. But then: Your device isn’t supported anymore… I have an iPhone 5 and stupid Apple stopped me at iOS 9, no iOS 10 available for my phone, can you please resupport iOS9? Completely useless now for me :frowning:

Awesome…

I installed the Android-version of the updated software supporting the PARROT ANAFI yesterday and created 4 projects. As the meteo today was favorable, I went in the field and executed these projects (Grid Mission, Double Grid Mission, Polygon Mission and a Circular Mission).

All four flown and executed like a charm. Amazing results with the ANAFI! Thanks a lot for the update! It works simply great. What an accuracy. Also better WiFi-signal and more steady contact and life-feed then the case of Parrot’s FreeFlight 6. I also constantly received far more sattelites.

All four missions were executed flawless. I also simulated an ‘emergency’ and took over the command by using the Controller 3 during a mission. No problem. Also the flight to ‘Home’ after executing a mission was marvellous, although I took over when the ANAFI was close to the landing point. Otherwise the drone tends to land about 1 to 1,5 meter from its original starting point. So it landed once near the (80 cm) landing pad into the grass field.

Will try to create a vid on my flights. I am REALLY pleased with the support! Supper app!

Martin

Has the Pix4D team officially announced the support of android version for the Anafi?  I noticed it was on Google Play but not on this thread.  Thanks for the insightful information, Martin:)

I already tried the new Android application with Parrot Anafi. Looks like planning, mission path, drone control, imagining, off-line mapping, even with Google Maps works very well. I am impressed.

But I do NOT see live preview from drone’s camera, only black screen.

And, how Pix4d set camera expose parameters? It looks like p-log mode with auto-expose, isn’t it?
Is it the best settings for 3D mapping?

The ‘black screen’ is a typical Android thing, I guess. I am using a Samsung Note 2 tablet with mini-usb connection nd I encountered the same problems. At the early start of a mission, I can switch from mission map to the pictures (or the Anafi’s live feedback) and back. But after some tme switching from mission map to live feed (photos) gives simply a black screen. I recorded my missions, so I can document both modes.

The Pix4D app always forces the Anafi to use the JPEG Wide settings (5344 x 4016 pix). One cannot change these settings for now. The JPEG WIDE works fantastic with photogrammetry programs, it is deliberately done for their Pix4D mapping program (I use the trial version for now). I also backed up my results in Agisoft Photoscan. Both programs give good results although Pix4D is faster and is specially conceived for mapping and photogrammetry. The software also generates a very detailed report of the results. Marvellous. Agisoft takes a lot longer for about equal results but without a report, just a point cloud and colored mesh.

I also wish we could have control over the camera settings (ISO, AE locked etc.). Otherwise Pix4D / Ctlr Parrot 2 is a super app and very useful for me! Works flawlessly and is well conceived!

Thanks again, Martin

Did a test flight yesterday with iOS pix4d.  Initial photos from the Anafi have bubble-lens artifacts (gopro), but the pix4d capture and quick online-processed pix4d orthomosaic look great ;-)   Thank you Pix4D!

I have been doing some test flights today and overall the workflow is very smooth and effective. The results look great as well.

Just a few things desired to make it over the top. I am also getting the black screen when in the photo preview screen on Samsung Galaxy S7. I will soon test on Nvidea Sheid K1 and post my feedback.

I wish that the free flight mission was available for Anafi. Will this be coming in later updates?

I agree that having some control over camera settings would be beneficial. On my Phantom 3 having the ability to adjust the settings while looking at the preview screen has really improved my model when shooting during very dark or light conditions.

I believe the RTH altitude for Anafi using the Ctrl + Parrot 2 defaults to whatever mission height you choose. This is slightly different behavior than what I am used to with DJI products which will raise/lower to the RTH height you have set in the control app (DJI GO). Just something to be aware of. I don’t see any issue doing it this way and it’s actually simpler.

had you tested with k1 ?

Hi Matt,

Thank you for your feedback!
Actually, the camera view is not available for the current Pix4Dcapture release supporting the Anafi hence the black screen. It will be implemented in a future release but for the moment, no date or estimation can be given.
Currently, it is not in the pipeline to implement Free Flight mission with the Anafi. However, it is something that our developer’s team keep in mind for the future.

Best,

if we use parrot anafi photos that are produced will be bubbles…???

The Pix4D processing (after pix4d capture) removes the fish-eye

I use anafi with pix4dcapture to do mapping with no problems, but after freefligth 6 and firmware last updates there is a problem with px4dcapture. I run a mission and after the second flight line the anafi stops the mission. i reinstall everything but still the same problem i tried many times with different configurations and still the same problem

Hi Christos,

Thank you for your feedback. This behavior has not been reported to us so far.

Are you updated with the latest Pix4Dcapture versions?
Are you using the Android or iOS version of Pix4Dcapture?
Are you flying the same kind of missions than before and in similar places?
Also, what is exactly happening when the Anafi stops the mission? Is it hovering or going back to land?
Is it happening always at the end of the second flight line or is it a random behavior during the second flight line?

Even if you probably have been through the basic checks and troubleshooting, I would suggest you have a look at them here and focusing maybe on some parameters set in FreeFlight Pro 6 that can prevent the mission to be executed properly and be sure that no interferences can occur in the location where you fly the Anafi.

Best,
