Hy guys, I wondering what types of drones can I buy that can help me to calculate a volume of land or an organic material. I do not have have a great budget, but do you know for example a dji mavic 3 classic can do it?
Hi @camilaberger ,
Certainly, the DJI Mavic 3 Classic can be used for volume calculations as it is capable of capturing high-quality images that can be processed with photogrammetry software like PIX4Dmatic+PIX4Dsurvey, PIX4Dcloud, or PIX4Dmapper to create accurate 3D models and perform volume measurements.
However, it’s important to note that the accuracy of your volume calculations will also depend on factors such as the quality of the images, the overlap between the images, the use of Ground Control Points GCPs, and the Ground Sampling Distance GSD. The Mavic 3 Classic, with its high-resolution camera, can provide the detailed imagery required for such tasks, especially when flown correctly to ensure adequate overlap and coverage.
For budget-conscious options, you might also consider other DJI drones that are supported by Pix4D software, as they provide a good solution for 3D reconstruction and can generate various outputs required for volume calculations. It’s recommended to use the Pix4Dcapture mobile app to optimize image acquisition when using DJI drones for mapping tasks.
Note that if a drone, camera, or device is not supported by one of Pix4D’s image acquisition apps, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the images captured with that drone, camera, or device can’t be processed in one of Pix4D’s photogrammetry software.
For example, while PIX4Dscan and PIX4Dcapture don’t support the DJI Mavic 3, images from this drone can be processed in any of Pix4D’s processing software. For more information: Which image acquisition app can I use with Pix4D’s software?
Remember to always consider the specific requirements of your project and ensure that the drone and sensors you choose are suitable for the level of precision and accuracy you need.
Cheers,
Daniele
