What is the best option to generate an orthomosaic as detailed as possible in PIX4Dmapper?
A. Selecting a custom GSD of 1 cm in the processing option of step 3 “Resolution”.
B. By selecting the automatic terrain sampling distance (GSD) of 1xGSD in the processing option of step 3 “Resolution”.
C. Generating a point cloud of the highest possible density.
“B” is going to give you the “best” resolution. Here’s why:
A. If your true GSD is 2cm (Based on the camera model and the height of your flight) you won’t get better resolution by selecting 1cm. You will just get a bigger file because it is creating unnecessary pixels.
C. A higher density point cloud won’t help with resolution. It can; however, give you a better orthorectification of the image. You will see this in areas where there are building edges. The resolution won’t change, but the end product might be cleaner.
Does that help?
