Hi Everyone,
I’ve been asking around in a couple of the existing topics and it seems the common wisdom for Vineyard Surveying is to trim layers to each individual row and use either the common indexes (NDVI ect.). However even after following this the indexes are still very messy, with the undergrowth of weeds and grass clearly affecting the values. I have however had much more luck using the SIPI2 index as it seems to better pick out the vine canopy and take a reading from it as per the image below:
From this I can the then use the magic tool to pick out anything below 0.8 and draw a map of seemingly lagging growth, with the affects being further monitered and confirmed on the ground:
All seems well and working as intended but I can’t help be spooked by previous comments about other vegetation affecting the overall reading and the fact that no else is using it? Is it really this simple or am I potentially missing disease, pests or other causes better picked up by other indexes or even worse getting skewed data? This is just a test but if I was doing this commercially that could cause some problems.
And secondly looking up SIPI2 it seems the normal range seems to be 0 to 2 however mine doesn’t seem to go higher than 1 and in this particular case goes down to negative values, any further clarification on what this range should be would be fantastic.
