New DJI Matrice 4E Georeference Issue

Good afternoon,

We just got a new DJI Matrice 4E after having amazing success with the Mavic 3E. Though we do not do it a lot, it is handy that recently we have been able to import the photos from an RTK mission and they are within 1-2 inches with no ground control adjustment. Now when flying the Matrice 4E it would appear the vertical datum is about 20’ off. Since the 4E is brand new is there something within the software that needs to be updated to handle the new photos?

Thank you.

Hi @cgrogg, can you give me more information about your project’s setup? Did you use checkpoints to check the absolute accuracy of your project? How did you determine there is an offset of 20’?
PIX4Dmatic reads the coordinates and the coordinate system from the image metadata. Can you confirm that the values of your image vertical coordinates and the selected image coordinate system are correct?

Good morning @Rhea_Garratt. Would it be possible for me to send you these 2 photos sets so you could process them and see what I mean? I will do my best to describe it here.

We subscribed to the Hexagon Smartnet here in Virginia. I am able to connect the drone to that network and fly our mapping missions. The Mavic 3E for the longest time would not process to the correct horizontal and vertical results unless we used control. Then here recently I flew a mission and realized o wow now it uses the photo information to then switch it to our datum which is Virginia South NAD2011 Us Survey Ft, and NAVD88 us survey ft Geoid 18.

Now we receive the new drone the other day and I toss it up thinking I am going to get the same results, and it is not true. It appears to be close horizontally, but vertically way off. I was just doing test flights in our office parking lot so I did not set specific control out, but I have information on some specific features that make for an easy check.

I would be happy to send you the Mavic 3E photos and then the Matrice 4E photos so you can see what I am saying. Thank you for the help!

@Rhea_Garratt Also in looking at your supported cameras it would appear the new Matrice 4e is not listed yet. So maybe this is as easy as the developers need to add the new camera parameters to the software?
