Hi
Just loaded my first lot of images and GCP into Pix4dmatic. Waiting for the processing to finish.
Wil I get a email indicating that the process is complete?
I have also load the second lot of images and when I go to click on 15 days remaining it go’s to a buy now option.

I live in a very small town with a population of 2,000 and have just purchased a new Wingtra drone. Currently looking at best options to process my images and share with my clients. I have been using Drone Deploy for the last 6 years. As I do not have a lot of projects that require my drone services it is very hard to justify the cost of US $570/month for Pix4dmatic. I think it is a great cloud software and it is easy to use.

Hi @Samuel_Van_eldik

Great to hear that you’re testing Pix4Dmatic. We did not yet implement a system to notify you by email when the processing is finished in Pix4Dmatic. You will have to check in on the project from time to time. Your suggestion is duly noted though.

Please keep me posted on how your processing went!

Depending on the type of projects you have and the deliverables you need to generate, there is a range of Pix4D products that could be suited to your needs.

What type of projects do you typically do? and what kind of deliverables do you need to generate? This would help in recommending the software that would best fit your needs. For example, Pix4Dmatic is meant to process large datasets of more than 5000 images.

Hi Pierangelo

Some history

I am a one man band survey company. I have a inspire 2 and Wingtra that I use for aerial survey. The Wingtra is a very new addition .

I live in a very small town with a small requirement for aerial survey, and I am trying to build the business by working away from home.

I have been using Drone Deploy for a long time and I am now looking at different options for my aerial data. The major thing that I am trying to sell to clients is that the data I capture can be accessed via the cloud for them to view and use. That these data can be accessed for years to come. I am currently quoting on flying complete towns with the region.

So currently I can have one job every couple of months and the monthly ongoing cost for a small company like me is to much. I would like to see options that take into account the amount of projects processed per month and still have all of the options as a large company have.

Pix4dcloud

I have looked at and tried Pix4dcloud, not happy that you can only have black and white targets for GCP. I like to use white paint crosses where possible so I do not have to go around and pickup the targets after completing the flight. There is no option to pick the targets manually like Pix4dmatic. I really like the options to view and access information in this package. Another down side is I have used Pix4dmapper to process my data then tried to upload to Pix4dcloud and found that there are reresections on the size of the projects that can be uploaded. So this is why I started looking and the new Pix4dmatic.

Pix4dmatic

Great having the option to manually locate the GCPs and processing time. Not ideal for sharing the data with clients as there is no option like Pix4dcloud to use the data for clients.

Pix4dmapper

Great to process the data but not good for sharing data with clients and I have to go and purchase a high end computer to process the data for $10,000.

I find that at present Pix4d is very disjointed with lots of options for data processing but not one complete options that has all the requirements that are needed.

Any assistance would be appreciated in me making a long term commitment to using Pix4d.

Kind regards

Hi

Is it possible to make a monthly option to have pix4dmatic and pix4dcloud combined?

This way I can have the option within Pix4dmatic to upload large and small projects and manually pick the GCPs and export the required data which is great.

When the data has been processed in Pix4dmatic is it possible to have this data automatically available within Pix4dcloud? This way I can have the data for my clients to view.

Or change Pix4dcloud to have the options that Pix4dmatic have.

Kind regards

@Samuel_Van_eldik I’ll try to reply to your points below.

  • Pix4Dmatic supports Wingtra cameras and should soon support the Inspire 2 cameras too (X5S, X7).
  • For online sharing you’d be looking at a Pix4Dcloud or Pix4Dcloud Advanced license. The latter is especially useful for site monitoring (timeline) or CAD overlay comparison. These two solutions are mostly focused on the analysis part combined with automatic processing.
  • If you need more advanced features to control the settings of your project you would be looking at Pix4Dmapper. If you have very large projects (5000< images), you could complement this with Pix4Dmatic. In both you can precisely select GCPs (regardless of how the GCP looks like).
  • You should be able to upload and store projects from both software to the Pix4Dcloud, so that you can share them with your clients. However, the Pix4Dcloud currently is not optimized for projects larger than 3000 images, this might come in the future if there is a demand. Here is a tutorial about what can be uploaded: https://support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005434163-How-to-upload-results-and-outputs-to-Pix4Dcloud
  • As Pix4Dmapper and Pix4Dmatic are desktop software you would need a computer that corresponds to the type of projects you run. Here are the recommendations for Pix4Dmatic: https://support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/360044895711-Pix4Dmatic-recommended-hardware. And here is a case study for Pix4Dmapper: https://support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003928846-Hardware-case-study
  • Considering the answers above, yes, you can make a monthly subscription to Pix4Dmatic and Pix4Dcloud. You can either purchase these on our store: https://www.pix4d.com/pricing or you can get in touch with our sales team through this form: https://www.pix4d.com/contact
