Cleaning point cloud of 30,000 + images and processing to get the ortomosaic

Hi guys, how are you?

in your experience how long it takes to clean point cloud and then process to get a single ortomosaic and DSM of 17k has of a farm?

Considering the point clould cleaning and theses configurations:

CPU: Intel i7, i9, Xeon, or AMD Threadripper.
GPU: GeForce GTX 10 series, or RTX series.
RAM: 128 GB (5,000-10,000 images at 20 MP).
Disk Space: SSD, 400 GB - 550 GB Free space

I estimate like one week of 25- 30 hours, is that correct?

To process 30,000 photos in Pix4DMapper, you will have to split into at least three projects of 10,000 each, then merge. For a project this size I would use Pix4DMatic instead.

You’ll need a powerful workstation as well. I would either get an Intel i9 13900k system or AMD Threadripper Pro 5975wx / 5995wx system. With the Intel, you are limited to 192GB of memory. The AMD supports up to 1TB. Nvidia RTX 4090 would be the recommended GPU. 4TB+ NVME storage as well.

Good luck!

Hey Andrew, thank you very much for your time.

With all that considerations taken, even with matic i do have to split the project?

Camila

Honestly I’m not sure. I’ve never processed a project that large. I don’t think Pix4DMatic has an image limit. If you have the computer hardware it should work.
