[Android Beta] - Phantom 3 Professional / Advanced and Inspire 1

No issues with freezing here, also running 32gb of ram.

Went out & tried to use the Capture App yesterday, and no luck. Repeated crashes, and never would connect to the drone. So frustrating, as it worked great the day before.

You can get good deals on older rack mount servers. Found one with 4 quad cores and 96 gigs of RAM for $800. Just need 220 volt plug and a sound proof room.

Good Idea Vertical Aspect Support, I will give that a try. Thank you!

@Mark, I had some problems the other day as well. The App crashed like 10 times before it finally stabilized. No issues since. Using a NVIDIA tablet.

I use a set of precision work station with dual xeon six core processors and 48 GB of RAM.  You can find them on Ebay for 600 US.  The six cores are hyper threaded so from the Pix4D standpoint it thinks there are 24 procs.  I can do 300 to 400 image sets in a few hours.

Ooooh Fancy. I’m not really a computer guy, guess it’s time to learn. Sounds like one hell of a setup Keenan.

Never thought I’d end up doing these kinds of projects when I first got into drones. Oh what a tangled web drones weave.

@Mitchell, indeed they do.  A brand new Dell Precision workstation can be maxed out spec wise which would be a total of 32 cores (64 virtual), 256 GB of memory, 24 TB or Disk space, etc… for $25000.  I wonder just how fast pix4d would be… More importantly, I wonder if Pix4d would use the resources properly. Oh well, I can only dream.

firmware phantom 3 profesional v1.5.0030 funciona con la ultima actualización de pix4d '??  por favor es de urgencia ??

3 Professional v1.5.0030 phantom firmware works with the latest update pix4d '?? please is urgent ??

free flight mission is not working , is it normal? mean , this is not done in the app??

@Keenan

I don’t think that P4D will use all that power. I build my machine for processing and only used a fat i7 with 32 gb of ram, 2 - 1tb SSDs and a GTX 970 CUDA card. The largest test I have tried so far is about 800 pictures. It took about four hours to process. The CUDA card makes a lot of difference.

Hello guys! Here are some news on my side!

First off, I’ve been flying the Inspire 1 quite a lot recently, for scientific purpose, and I came to realize that it works better if I take off manually before going to the “pre-flight checklist”. Which means:

  1. Start the drone / RC
  2. Plug the RC into the phone
  3. Open Capture
  4. Go into the Grid Mission mode / set the grid. Wait until it is connected (wireless icon on the upper right corner should become green.
  5. Take off manually, make the drone hover above ground (the altitude is not relevant)
  6. Hit “Start” and try to start the mission
  7. If “uploading mission” does not finish in less than 20sec, I usually hit “Cancel” and “Start” again

Have you experienced the same? That is really annoying, so I am really sorry for that.

The good news of the day is that SDK 2.4.1 has been released today! I would be really disappointed if the download did not work with that one, and I truly hope that the connection has been improved. We have been working with DJI on that, at least. I will release 2.0.8 next week with the new SDK, I can’t wait to test that!

Have a nice day,

@All: Sorry for the delay in the support. It actually takes me a lot of time to follow everything that is happening here, so sometimes I just get lost for a while =/. I am not a support guy, and our support cannot always help a lot about the betas because… well… you’ve seen that we have problems with the P3/I1 already ;-).

Anyway, when I don’t answer here, it means that we are rushing, and that is usually for Capture!

We have some problems that may come from our design: we started with the P2 and we don’t want to drop support for it because it is working very well, and we really want to support our customers who are still using it. Maybe that makes us a bit slower than other Apps, but we will eventually have a stable version supporting P2/P3/I1 =).

@Mark: Are you using the Zenmuse X5? Capture overlap was not configured for that because I don’t have it. You could try to go in advanced mode and set a larger overlap if you want. Anyway, you should definitely open a ticket with our support, that will be much faster!

@jonas: Yes, I’m using the new Inspire 1 Pro with the Zenmuse X5. I’ll open a support ticket, but any idea when this system will be incorporated into Capture? The larger sensor size of the X5 makes it a great mapping platform.

@Mark

Hi Mark,

I am using an inspire X3 and P3P and my question is regarding the difference of quality between P3P or Inspire X3 and the X5.

Do you still have a P3P or X3 ? If yes, will it be possible to do a picture, even from the ground, with the P3P or X3 and the X5 of the same place, same angle and distance ? I will appreciate a lot !

Thanks

I am interesting to upgrade to X5, but I’ll be happy to see the difference before.

@Jonas

Same question than Mark, will you add the X5 in the app soon ?

Axel

I don’t have a P3 or an X3, but I found a comparison that David Terry did on the Facebook user group.

https://m.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fattachment.fbsbx.com%2Ffile_download.php%3Fid%3D1698084477090008%26eid%3DASvDIoo6f-2HUv1O5ogxyjIhJvmbhaKU6IdZ8CwOOthbU09XxUsuM5quRdaO0PsurGk%26ext%3D1448814133%26hash%3DASumOSaQ_cF1m8I_&h=qAQE8E-Kp

At first it doesn’t seem as though the quality of the images differs much, but take a look at the number of tie points, and the resulting GSD between the cameras. The X5 has nearly half the GSD from the same flight altitude as the other cameras. That’s essentially twice as much detail given the same flight characteristics.

I really hope they can get the app stable, and integrate the X5 soon.

Thanks Mark,

I can’t follow the link, it is telling me that there is a problem with.

Do you have any other way to access to ?

Best

@ Jonas Vautherin

How about just creating a separate capture app for p3 and Inspire?  This would allow you to do a bit of cleaning out of legacy code as well. The p2v is definately not the future of either Pix4d or the community at large.

@Jonas Vautherin

Any updates on whats happening with Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.  I’m a licenced commercial operator who’s been on hiatus the last month or so.  Yesterday I tried to resume operations with my Inspire 1 with updated firmware and the newest version of the Andriod app only to find functionality totally broken(seems to be problem linking to groundstation).  I’ve tried to downgrade my capture app to both 2.05 and 2.04 multiple times with clean installs.  I’ve spent hours pouring over the forum posts and tried everything mentioned so far.  Nothing seems to work.  My Pix4d pro licence recently expired and I cannot renew until I know that I can get flying again with the equipment I own.

Welcome Colin, and welcome to the nonfunctional app. Till they actually decide to fix the app I am forced to use Dronedeploy to capture and then use Pix4d pro for processing. They keep blaming the SDK but other apps work with the samep SDK so not sure what the problem is. I have spent a number of hours trying to get it to work with my Galaxy tab S 8.4 inch. I just bought a used like new nVidea Shield tablet. Plan to try it today once I get verything updated and paired.

@Kyle, I can get dronedeploy android beta to fly, but its not triggering the actual shutter to take a picture. Any thoughts?
