Shadow stripes on orthomosaic

Site3Rapid_25_jun_report.pdf (2.5 MB)

I am having issues with striping in an orthomosaic and I believe it is related to reflection from water. The “shadow lines” are in the same direction as the flight lines. This flight was flown at 80% front and side lap and we also flew a cross-hatch pattern to ensure enough tie points flying over a homogenous marsh.

  1. Are there any ideas on how to improve the ortho with our current pictures? Different processing options, etc.?

  2. Tips for better data collection to ensure this doesn’t happen again?

Thank you!

Hello,
Typically, when we see this, it is due to low overlap. It also appears that you flew this during the middle of the day when there is significant reflectance from the sun, which is also likely contributing to the striping. I would try flying this in the morning or later in the afternoon when the reflectance is much less. It should reduce this striping effect.
