Is there a way to fix uncalibrated cameras? the image is there but It leaves holes in my data. I Don’t see a way to fix it in PIX4Dmatic

Hi,

Welcome to the community!

Are you able to give an idea of the terrain in that area, or share a screenshot to include image content? Without further information, I would suspect that there is reflective or very homogenous low texture subject matter in that region where the software is having a hard time finding tie points between images. Thus PIX4Dmatic not being able to calibrate them.

Regards,
-Jon

Hi Jonathan!

It is a desert terrain so no trees. Would you be able to meet over teams? Also I am unsure the elevation is correct. Is there a way to fix this?

Hi lbookman,

I am unable to meet over teams.

This type of terrain can be difficult to map. I am not familiar with current settings, but would recommend increasing the overlap to help get all the cameras to calibrate. Flying higher would be best to use in this case, as images with more elevation will contain more of the scene increasing the likelihood of matchable texture between images. If you were to add overlap by increasing the number of images the likelihood of there being matchable texture between images does not increase. Here are some specific recommendations from the documentation: [Step 1. Before Starting a Project \> 1. Designing the Image Acquisition Plan \> a. Selecting the Image Acquisition Plan Type](https://support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/202557459)

**Snow and sand** have little visual content due to large uniform areas. Therefore:

- Use a **high overlap: At least 85% frontal overlap and at least 70% side overlap**.
- Set the exposure settings accordingly to get as much **contrast** as possible in each image.

Also from: [Is it possible to generate the orthomosaic of water surfaces?](https://support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/202558999)(While this article is about mapping water, the concepts are still relevant)

It is recommended to increase the overlap and making sure that some land[areas with texture] is also visible in the images.

It is suggested to **adjust the flight plan** and:

- Increase the flight height to cover a larger area with a single image.
- Increase the overlap.
- Images should contain at least 30% of land[areas with texture].

Regarding height, most errors are realized when coordinate reference systems are incorrectly selected. Is one reference applying the geoid or ellipsoidal height while the other is not? Please double check these. What kind of error are you experiencing?

Regards,
-Jon

@lbookman can you please share more information on which processing settings you have used? also, if you could share your log file of the project this could help. (Help \> Export project log files…). That way we know more about the camera you have used, the hardware on which it was processed, etc…without that information it is difficult to help.

Currently the main ways of fixing uncalibrated cameras, once the project is already acquired, are:

- Adapting the processing options for the Calibrate step to match the project content.
- Adding Manual Tie Points (MTPs) in difficult to calibrate areas.

That’s why knowing more about your processing settings and what options you have tried would help.
