In my company we had a staff member who used Pix4D to get 3D objects for input into other programs. He said he used Pix4D Mapper.

He no longer works for us so I can’t have him take me through it, but if I needed to make a 3D model of a cactus out of 2D images for example, how would I do that using Pix4D?

I have a limited range of 2D images to draw from and the tutorial videos are confusing and don’t seem to apply to what I need to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to our Community 🙂

Here you can find more information about how to create a project from A to Z:

I suggest you take several images around your object of interest, similarly to the flight plan described here for buildings:

It does not matter if the images are taken with a drone or by hand, the principle is the same, you need several with high overlap. The images need to be as sharp as possible (not blurry)

I hope it helps 🙂

Thank you for your response Christina. I’ll look over these tutorials. It seems rather overly complicated for simple 3D models but I guess that’s difficult to avoid in photogrammetry. I have very little experience in doing this and even with my animation background I’m still relatively confused and overwhelmed by much of what is being discussed.

I’ll do my best though, thank you again!

Hello, thanks for your reply.
If we have to summarize the procedure, I would say the most important is:

1. High overlap images
2. Good quality images (not blurry)

You could also try to use a video for your cactus model, as this will ensure high overlap:

> **[How to use Videos for Processing](https://support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/205294735-How-to-use-Videos-for-Processing)**

> 4K videos from cameras such...

Keep in mind that our training courses cover the fundamentals of photogrammetry (in case you consider our training options)

Enjoy mapping! Τhe world of photogrammetry is beautiful with lots of potential 🙂
